Some 10,482 out of the 10,782 star-rated hotels, or 97.22% of the hotels registered in China's national hotel management system submitted their operating data for the first quarter this year.

The reporting rate was at above 90% in 47 out of 50 major tourist cities nationwide, and 33 cities including Tianjin, Shanghai, Xi’an and Jinan recorded a reporting rate of 100%.

In the first three months of 2018, about 9,586 star-rated hotels satisfied the reviews of provincial tourism administrations. Among them, 62 were one-star hotels, 1,683 two-star hotels, 4,613 three-star hotels, 2,401 four-star hotels and 827 five-star hotels.

The 9,586 qualified star-rated hotels reported total revenues of RMB 48.711 billion, up by 2.43% year-on-year. F&B incomes contributed RMB 20.824 billion (42.75%) and guest room incomes RMB 20.912 billion (42.93%).

In Q1 2018, the average room rate (ARR) of all star-rated hotels was RMB 343.13 per room night, up by 1.07%; average occupancy rate (AOR) was 50.55%, up by 0.35 percentage points; revenue per available room (RevPAR) was RMB 173.45, up by 1.77%; and the average operating income per room was RMB 33,831, up by 13.22%

Eight provinces reported higher ARRs than the national average of RMB 343.13 per room night, with Shanghai, Beijing, Hainan, Guangdong and Tianjin achieving the highest ARRs. Shanghai was the most expensive, with ARR up to RMB 710.65 per room night.
